And Her Name was Rem
How could it have possibly come to this?
He lay on his side, his back turned to her, and stared at the far wall, his heart and mind in torment. Ever since he had brought her home from the hospital after that horrible night when he had almost lost her, he would curl up beside her and wrap his arms around her. She would turn into him, welcoming his embrace, and fall asleep listening to his heartbeat, her hand resting comfortingly over his chest. It had been the only way he could fall asleep: with her nestled in his arms, where he was sure she was safe.
Now, three years later, she lay as far from him as she could - in truth he was surprised she was still in his bed at all. Once she would have welcome his touch, his soft caress and light trail of kisses over her shoulder before they fell asleep. But for three weeks now she would stiffened, and shift silently away.
He needed her, now more than ever, but she only ever rejected him, not with words so much as actions. And he had no idea what h
It was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. Three long years of pain, duplicity, and death, and the first thing he saw when he walked back through the doors of 221B Baker Street was her smile. Why she was there he could only guess, and he never guessed, but the whys and wherefores didn't matter. As soon as she heard the door open and turned to face him, that small smile tugging almost unwillingly at the corner of her mouth had been all he knew. Even the broken jaw he received when his best friend knocked him flat barely registered, because she was there, and her smile made it all worthwhile.
He spent the next two years doing everything he could to keep that smile on her face, though for most of it he didn't know why. Why should that simple expression mean so much to him when it was on her face? It didn't affect him when anyone else did it, so why did he feel like he couldn't breathe whenever she turned to him, and her mouth pulled up into that awe-inspiring
Two words. Just two words. Two small words and they turned her world upside down.
Molly Hooper spun around, her white lab coat flying around her, her eyes wide and brimming with tears even before she saw him. But see him she did, standing tall behind her, his Belstaff and scarf a sight so familiar and yet so foreign...
She took a deep, shuddering breath. "They're all safe? There's no one left?" she asked. She didn't need to clarify who.
Sherlock nodded. "Yes," he whispered. "You're safe. No one can hurt you now."
Molly frowned at his choice of words. "'You're safe?'" she asked. "What do you mean?"
Sherlock sighed. "They were hunting you, too, Molly. But I took care of it." He sighs again, and closes his eyes. "I took care of it. It's all done."
Molly sighed sadly. Sherlock, once so proud, stood dejected, depressed. She didn't need to know what he did while he was away to know that he was disgusted with himself, with what he had had to become.
She stepped forward, and befor
CH 18: A Reminder...
As they entered the Chantry, they were greeted by Sister Patrice, and after a short confrontation she disclosed that her guard's judgment had slipped and told them where to find him. "Screams trap if you ask me" Sebastian asked as he rounded the corner. "Of course it is, you going to try your luck with it too?" She asked with a smile, fully hoping he'd smile back, which he did. And once again a wave of warmth caressed her.
"Oh, Hawke? Aveline had stopped by earlier. She has been wanting to see you. It sounded important, maybe you should pay her a visit when we are done if it's not too late." Sebastian suggested as he followed behind her. Their trip was rather uneventful too easy she thought as they approached the voices they heard. "So, how long until Patrice shows up trying to save face?" Rem asked her group, when she looked back all she saw were shrugs "Good to know." She said as she shook her head.
"Like any beast, remove the fangs and it is lost. They are weak before th
CH 17: Strength
Several weeks had gone by since they had made it to Kirkwall and Rem was beginning to feel restless. Her friends visited her daily and she finally began to feel more at home. "Bodhan?" Rem called from the library where she had been going over the various different requests that had accumulated over the last couple weeks. "Do you know how long this message from the Viscount has been here?" she asked as she was rubbing her temple. "I believe that arrived just the other day. I believe your companions here went to investigate it but I don't know for sure, Lady Hawke" said Bodhan in his fatherly tone.
As Rem twisted in her chair to stretch she saw Anders walk into the library in the corner of her eye. "Anders, great timing I have been going through my stack of messages that have been accumulating when I found one from the Viscount. Bodhan said you all went to see what it was about, so what's going on with that?" She asked over her shoulder as she sighed when her back popped. "Yes, we

CH 15: Reflection
It was late when he was finally leaving Rem's estate to head to the Hanged Man, and Fenris couldn't even think of words to describe how exhausted he was. The last thing he wanted to do was to recite all the events that have gone on for the last two weeks but it has to be done he thought with a sigh.
As he stared at the door to the Hanged Man Fenris started to let his mind wander, who was going to take it the worst? Isabella should be fine with it, she didn't seem especially loyal. Varric is very loyal to Hawke, he was going to take it hard but he should understand what they went through to save her.. but in the end he failed her.. Carver he never seemed to care for him or his sister that was going to end up bad. Enough it's time to get this over with he thought as he pulled the hood to his cloak up and walked into the Hanged man without another thought.
Slowly his walk up to Varric's room felt like a death march, but it was yet again inevitable
CH 14: ...So I Would Remember You...
Fenris woke up when he felt Rem start to struggle in her arms. "No stop please don't hurt him I'll do anything ." She mumbled in her sleep. Fenris' couldn't help his shock when he heard what she said.. he could feel how tight her muscles were. "Rem Shhh everything is okay." He whispered to her as he held her close. What was she dreaming of? Rem he thought with a frown which soon turned to anger as his thoughts went to Denarius. Fenris cursed him from the depths of his soul for hurting her, to cause these nightmares for her to now live with. There was no place in his heart for mercy now.
It shouldn't be long Fenris thought, but now what should he do Take her straight to her estate or go to the clinic to be seen after? How are they going to react to her now? Damn, this was going to be a lot harder than he thought. I guess the best thing to do would be to bring her home first, get her cleaned up and settled in, explain everything

~The next day~
"Hawke" Fenris greeted her outside her estate. Instantly Rem's face lit up, "Fenris!" She said as if she was surprised to see him there, she turned to him smiling ear to ear, "Ready?" she asked as she walked towards him. "Almost" he said, stopping her in her tracks. "Wha-" she started, but stopped has he planted a quick kiss on her cheek. "Alright, now I'm ready to brave the bloody mage." He said jokingly. Rem reached up and rubbed cheek where Fenris kissed her following behind him.
After a couple of minutes they were in the Market. Waving, Rem greeted Varric, "And where is Blondie?" she asked as she scanned the area. "Ah, he's not here yet. He should be here soon. You know how it is with the clinic." Varric offered. Sitting down on a stair, "well how long do we think?" She said without any expectation of a reply. "Hey!! Sorry I'm late!" Anders said as he panted catching his breath. "Good, now that we are all here lets go. It should be a quick trip."

CH 7: Questions
Rem rubbed her forehead as she looked up into the sky as she left the Viscount's Keep. The sight of the clear blue sky severely contradicted the storms going through her head, ugh I am not going to drink like that again . Ever again she pledged to herself as she had recalled the events of her first couple of days back in Kirkwall that she could remember. Taking ownership of the old Amell estate was such a bother she thought as she felt the cumbersome weight of it fall from her shoulders. Taking a deep breath she smiled as the sweet smells of Hightown tickled her senses, she couldn't wait to be out of Lowtown especially to be away from Gamlen. That man gave her the creeps. Finally, it seemed like life was finally beginning to look up she thought. It was just too bad that her family couldn't all be there to enjoy it, she thought. The scorn of Carver joining the templars burned like a fresh wound.
Stop it, he made his choice. I knew he would have to become some
CH 6: Running Back Screaming
"Carver!" He saw Rem holding out a long object rolled up in her bedding disguising the sword she had obtained from the Winters, "Here I got this for you!" She said merrily as he entered the room half dressed in his light armor to see what she wanted. When he felt the weight of the gift in his hand, he stood there astounded. Looking to his sister as he unraveled the sword. Rem had sent for it to be cleaned and polished to remove any remaining trace of blood, "Where did you get this? We cannot afford to waste our coin on such things." He said, letting his practicality overtake his excitement.
"I found that one of the Winters was no longer in need of it. It seemed a waste to leave it there." Rem stated with a curious smile, "Do you not like it? When I saw it I even wanted it. But I could never wield such a weapon. It appeared to be a worthy blade." She continued on. "Thanks sis, it looks like a fine weapon." He said with a smile as he was inspecting the craftsmanship of the pommel. The gu

"Get up Rem!!"
"Rem, now. Get up, we have stuff to get done since you wasted our money on that elf." Carver called out as he pull Rem's blankets off. Shivering Rem turned over to see Carver furiously peering down at her. "So, now this is my fault?" she questioned as she sat up. "Well, you went and bought him all that furniture " Carver started. "To replace the furniture you and Anders destroyed. What would you have me do? Let him sleep on the floor?" She stated with the sounds of irritation clear in her tone. "I don't want to hear it. And unless you have found some jobs for us to do, get out." She added.
"I did find some jobs, lets get everyone together and get started. I'm going to go get Anders. You get Sebastian and Fenris. We'll meet at the Hanged Man to discuss" He said as he was leaving the room. As soon as he was gone, Rem pushed the door to so that she could change and get ready for the day. Maker I hate it here, Rem thought as she felt unease, turning her head

Rolling onto his side Fenris began to stretch breathing in a soft scent of sweet florals. His heart skipped a beat when he opened his eyes to see an unfamiliar room. As he jumped to his feet he felt a gentle hand on his shoulder. An older woman spoke up, "Oh, good you're up. Rem will be glad, but you should rest. I guess you were in quite a battered condition when she brought you here." "Oh, I'm Leandra. Rem and Carver's mother." She added when she saw the confusion on Fenris' features. " How long have I been here? What happened?" Fenris asked turning to see the aging woman who resembled Hawke smiling back at him. "Oh, I'd say a couple of hours. 3 maybe 4 perhaps?" She answered promptly.
"I am not aware of what happened. I suppose it must have been something seeing all the arguing in the house lately. Everything has been so tense lately. Rem and Carver at each other's throats is common. And after Gamlen's suggestion it turned to chaos." Leandra laughed, trying to make
CH 2: Playing The Damsel
So far, everything has been working out fine. Her companions have proven to be quite the interesting ragtag group she has ever seen. She tried to rotate among the group to try and learn a little more about them as well as trying to get everyone comfortable around one another. Therefore she was spending quite a bit more time in the Hanged Man than she normally would sharing drinks and playing cards. Her group always seemed to have all eyes on them. Whether it was the mix of characters there or to sneak glances at Isabella or Rem none of them knew. Varric had his coin on Isabella and Rem, what man wouldn't be drawn to their beauty when faced in a filthy tavern? Isabella was quick to agree, but Rem would always blush and laugh it off.
She had to admit, it was nice to spend time away from Gamlen's hole and enjoy the time with her new found friends. This time she was sitting with next to Anders who even Carver could tell his interest in Rem. Always finding some way to coyly tou
CH.1 And Her Name Was Rem
Somewhere in the back of her mind she knew her friends wouldn't have approved of her adventuring to the Wounded Coast alone and unarmed, but she couldn't imagine asking them to accompany her. She just needed some time alone to clear her mind, besides it's not like she could really trust any of them by this point anyway. Silently she stood in an small clearing, watching the lingering glow of the sun as it faded beyond the horizon, mimicking the images of her thoughts as she pondered what lead her to this point.
She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath of the twilight's cool breeze before she started to delve deeper into her past. Nothing could ever be easy could it? Running away from the darkspawn wasn't much different from running from the templars. Templars Oh, Bethany She tried to clear her mind by watching the last of the day's light give way to night, but she couldn't get Bethany off her mind. Her family was constantly on the run because Bethany alway
